SAP EVALUATIONS For Department of Transportation (DOT)

Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) is a person who evaluates employees who have violated a DOT drug and alcohol program regulation. 


Violations

  • Refusal to submit to a drug test

  • Positive Drug Screen

  • Adulterated Specimen

  • Substituted or Diluted Specimen


SAP Evaluation

Comprehensive face to face assessment and clinical evaluation to determine what level of care the employee needs towards resolving issues associated with their substance use.  Afte performing a comprehensive assessment the SAP recommends at a minimum a plan of action that includes education and or treatment along with drug testing. The employee must successfully complete the recommended plan if they want to return to their safety-sensitive position.

Safety Sensitive Personnel

Any individual who performs on-duty commercial transportation related functions including, by not limited to, moving a commercial vehicle and/or vessel from one point to another; controlling the vehicle and/or vessel movement through instruction and scheduling or direct orders, supervision of direction of vehicle and/or vessel movement; mechanical maintenance of vehicles and/or vessels transporting hazardous materials or containers; maintaining the location of hazardous materials, and armed security.
